Immune networks: multi-tasking capabilities at medium load
نویسندگان
چکیده
Associative network models featuring multi-tasking properties have been introduced recently and studied in the low load regime, where the number P of simultaneously retrievable patterns scales with the number N of nodes as P ∼ logN . In addition to their relevance in artificial intelligence, these models are increasingly important in immunology, where stored patterns represent strategies to fight pathogens and nodes represent lymphocyte clones. They allow us to understand the crucial ability of the immune system to respond simultaneously to multiple distinct antigen invasions. Here we develop further the statistical mechanical analysis of such systems, by studying the medium load regime, P ∼ Nδ with δ ∈ (0, 1]. We derive three main results. First, we reveal the nontrivial architecture of these networks: they exhibit a high degree of modularity and clustering, which is linked to their retrieval abilities. Second, by solving the model we demonstrate for δ < 1 the existence of large regions in the phase diagram where the network can retrieve all stored patterns simultaneously. Finally, in the high load regime δ = 1 we find that the system behaves as a spin glass, suggesting that finite-connectivity frameworks are required to achieve effective retrieval. Short-term and Medium-term Gas Demand Load Forecasting by Neural Networks
The ability of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for estimating the natural gas demand load for the next day and month of the populated cities has shown to be a real concern. As the most applicable network, the ANN with multi-layer back propagation perceptrons is used to approximate functions. Throughout the current work, the daily effective temperature is determined, and then the weather data w...
متن کاملPlatform for analyzing multi-tasking capabilities during BCI operation
Operating brain-actuated devices requires split attention between the interaction of the device with its environment and the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) feedback. In case of screen-based applications it is possible to merge BCI feedback and application, but not in case of controlling devices, like wheelchairs or exoskeletons. Recently we demonstrated that BCI feedback could be provided via t...
متن کاملA load on my mind: evidence that anhedonic depression is like multi-tasking.
Multi-tasking can increase susceptibility to distraction, affecting whether irrelevant objects capture attention. Similarly, people with depression often struggle to concentrate when performing cognitively demanding tasks. This parallel suggests that depression is like multi-tasking. To test this idea, we examined relations between self-reported levels of anhedonic depression (a dimension that ...
متن کاملLoad-Frequency Control: a GA based Bayesian Networks Multi-agent System
Bayesian Networks (BN) provides a robust probabilistic method of reasoning under uncertainty. They have been successfully applied in a variety of real-world tasks but they have received little attention in the area of load-frequency control (LFC). In practice, LFC systems use proportional-integral controllers. However since these controllers are designed using a linear model, the nonlinearities...

The present study examined the relationship between personality and individual differences in multi-tasking ability. Participants enrolled at the University of Utah completed measures of multi-tasking activity, perceived multi-tasking ability, impulsivity, and sensation seeking. In addition, they performed the Operation Span in order to assess their executive control and actual multi-tasking ab...
